Ganga Dussehra 2012, Ganga Dasara Puja in Jyeshta Month

Ganga Dussehra or Ganga Dasara is a ten-day festival dedicated to Goddess Ganga (Ganga River). This festival is celebrated for 10 days and ends on Shukla Dasami in Jyeshta month (May-June). Ganga Dussehra 2012 Ganga Puja dates – Ganga Dasara begins on May 21 and ends on May 31. It is mainly celebrated in holy places like Rishikesh, Haridwar, Prayag, Varanasi, and Garh-Mukteswar. Devotees throng to the ghats along the River Ganga and perform Punya snan and offer pujas and aratis to Goddess Ganga.

Ganga Puja is also celebrated in Vaishakh month as Ganga Saptami or Jahnu Saptami. Jahnu Saptami is known as the day during when Ganga descended to the earth (Ganga Jayanti).

Ganga Dashara 2012 is even more auspicious as Ganga Antya Pushkarams are held in 2012. Ganga Pushkaram is an auspicious event which comes once in 12 years of period.
